Rules

BEHAVIOUR

Here in Xenosystems Exploration & Survey, our primary rule is that we want everyone to have fun together and enjoy themselves while playing the game after a long day of work. As such, our cardinal rules concern behaviour, first and foremost. Violating these rules will prompt a discussion with a manager; repeated or severe violations can lead to removal from the org.

All org members are expected to be respectful and polite when dealing with other members of the community. Griefing, interfering with other players, and otherwise being a jerk is not permitted.

Humour is welcome! If someone is offended by a joke, apologize and move on; if you’re offended, state that and then move on. There’s no need to go into depth on the matter.

Since we are an international organization with people of all backgrounds, personalities and cultures, in order to avoid creating drama, the following topics are off-limits in any org chat:

  • Politics
  • Religion
  • Sexual Orientation
  • Personal baggage
  • Or anything else that common sense would say might be a sensitive topic. If your unsure, it’s probably a good indication not to go there.

No prejudice of any kind will be tolerated and will be an immediately ban-able offense, with no option to join again later. Gone is gone.

Adult language in org chat is DISCOURAGED, but we’re all human. Try and keep it to a minimum.

All players are expected to treat management and other org members with respect and courtesy.

These rules are simply guidelines; it’s possible that situations may develop in play which require more specific rules. If a manager makes a rule for a time that’s more restrictive than these rules, go by that rule until further notice; if we expect the rule to be in place for an extended period, we’ll add it in here.

WHAT WE'RE ALL ABOUT

Our focus in this org is finding mineral deposits, both on-planet and off-planet, to sell to the highest bidder, or failing that, to mine it for ourselves for refining and resale. That means that most events should correspond with that. While other events are more than welcome, the events that we focus upon will take precedence, and if someone is consistently only making and attending events contrary to our focus we may start cancelling those events or discussing the matter with the player in question.

We are a law-abiding org and expect every member to act accordingly. If you get on the wrong side of the authorities, we’ll drop you like a hot potato.

COMMUNICATION

Discord: you need it and a microphone. It is strongly encouraged that your RSI Handle match your discord nickname. This can be set on a per-server basis on discord, so it should be painless to accept and implement.

English is our main communication language, so it’s a requirement that everyone speak at least enough to understand and be understood. It’s alright if it’s not perfect English, however. As long as we can work it out and have some fun, that’s all that matters. We have no problem with certain crews and regional teams utilising their mother-tongues for activities, if it doesn’t get in the way of anyone else’s enjoyment.

ATTENDANCE

Real life comes first. This is the golden rule. The org site might make it look like we want to treat this like another job, but that really isn’t the case. Far from it. It’s just a roleplay element and a social, marketing and recruiting tool.

The org will be structured in such a way that there will be plenty of flexibility for independence, but we require that 3 org missions/activities be completed each month to support XES. With the way we intend to operate, there really should be no shortage of missions to carry out as an org member.

We’ll work out the ins and outs of money, membership contributions, salaries etc once we have clear guidance from CIG how that will be implemented. Suffice to say, the goal for XES is to have all members thrive and have a great time doing it.

For specific events, all players are expected to show up at least ten minutes before the designated start time. That doesn’t mean you need to be in the right spot and waiting for ten minutes, but you should be online and have all prerequisite content completed beforehand.

If you fail to complete prerequisite content before an event, the organizer and/or managers have the right to remove you from the group and bring someone else. Similarly, if you are more than ten minutes late to a org event, the organizer and/or managers have the right to start the event without you and not permit you to join after the fact. Consistently signing up for events and showing up late is considered a violation of org rules, but again, we’re all human. Do your best.

Non-members are ALLOWED to attend SOME org events. Due to the nature of our activities, we need to exercise some discretion as to who we invite and when. No point finding a large mineral deposit and losing out because someone’s buddy thought selling the location was fair game. This discretion needs to be applied even to our partnership orgs, but we’ll make it easy and clear, where partners are concerned. A list of approved orgs and personnel will be distributed when it becomes necessary.

Members are expected to be online at least once every fortnight (14 days) for at least a brief period. If circumstances will require you to be offline for an extended period, it’s not a problem. Just notify a manager ahead of time if you can. Without notifications, older characters may be removed from the org for inactivity.

MANAGERS

Your Directors and Managers are currently being hired. Any questions for the time being, please direct them to someone who knows something (Founders, Directors, etc.).

Managers are appointed based upon experience, ability, and trustworthiness over time. While managers have authority over other org members, they are not “superior” to other members and should not be considered as such. The managers are subject to the same rules as other members.

If you have a problem with one of the managers, please report it to another manager promptly. This includes situations wherein a manager makes you uncomfortable or appears to be violating the rules of the org for any reason. We strive for transparency and accountability, but we don’t always succeed; let us know if we make mistakes so we can correct them in the future.

PUNISHMENTS

Violating the rules of the org is something that we take seriously, as it can lead to hard feelings and damage overall group cohesion. In the event that someone is violating the rules of the org, we will investigate the matter and take appropriate action, whether the player in question is a manager or not.

If someone is behaving contrary to the rules, the first step is a discussion with the player in question and a notification that there is a problem. No further action will be taken, and if nothing else happens within a month the entire thing can be forgotten.

A separate or continuing incident requires further steps. Someone who is consistently behaving contrary to the org rules will be assigned a probationary rank with limited privileges for a MONTH’s time pending any further behaviour violations. Further behaviour issues will be dealt with via removal from the org.

If someone is removed from the org due to inactivity, they may reapply and re-join the org with no penalty whatsoever. If someone is removed from the org due to behaviour violations, they will not be permitted to reapply in the future.

PARTNER ORGS – RULES FOR XES MEMBERS

Treat partner org members with the same respect and courtesy required by our internal standards. If we receive any complaints in this regard, we will respond accordingly with a disciplinary conversation and possibly dismissal, dependent on the severity of the complaint.

Do not use communications with partner orgs as a platform for recruitment to XES. As a rule, we do not partner with orgs where there is a clear overlap of function. We specialize in a very limited field of operations. So, chances are that our partners’ org members are happy where they are.

If anyone from a partner org expresses interest in joining XES, please notify a Founder. A conversation will take place between the leaders of both orgs to ensure that day-to-day relations are treated with care and understanding, before conversations are taken any further with the individual.

We will not turn away to someone who wishes to join XES from a partner org, but we will not, under any circumstances, actively recruit from our partner memberships. Any violation of this rule may result in immediate dismissal.

You may recommend prospective members to explore our partner orginisations if they indicate strong interests in main activities or roles which we do not offer.

NON-PARTNER ORGS – RULES FOR XES MEMBERS

Treat any non-partner org members with the same respect and courtesy required by our internal standards. If we receive any complaints in this regard, we will respond accordingly with a disciplinary conversation and possibly dismissal, dependent on the severity of the complaint.

It’s always better to have friends, so let’s not burn any bridges that we don’t have to.
